A Mission Statement can be meaningful
For the first anniversary of my marriage, my wife wrote out our marriage vows and had them framed. They hang on the wall above my bed. They serve as a reminder of a far more idealistic period in my life. They also help me stay focused! When I am not the wonderful loving man that I promised to be on that day, I can slow down and think about what I value most in life.
Your mission statement can serve as a similar reminder for you.

It can be a living document that serves to keep you centered on the things that you value most in life. When you are making decisions that have an impact on your future you can take a moment to review your mission statement to ensure your decision is in line with your long-term vision for your life. Dr. Covey says, It's like deciding first which wall you want to lean your ladder of life against, and then beginning to climb. It will be a compass--a strong source of guidance amid the stormy seas and pressing, pulling currents of your life.
There are a few things a mission statement is and a few things it is not.
