Following are some of the steps for successful goal-setting and achievement:
- Set written goals and determine the benefits of accomplishing each goal.
- Before you start, make a plan of action.
- List priorities and stick to them.
- Deadlines will keep you going. You may need to step up the pace to get your schedule back on target.
- Find a role model to get a mental picture of what success looks like.
- Tell someone. The outside support may be just what you need.
- Be realistic about your goals and benchmarks so you dont out unnecessary pressure on yourself.
- Make a list of affirmations to keep reminding yourself that you are a winner and you do finish what you start.
- To support your affirmations, visualize yourself doing the difficult task.
- Be tenacious! Never give up! You will never know how close
- You are to success if you give up your dreams! Do give yourself a break if you need it.
- Reward yourself at milestones and thank those that have helped you get there.
- Keep score. How are you doing? Did you accomplish what you set out to do.
Now that you have the reason and the how to of goal setting, lets do it. Following is a goal-setting exercise that will help you get accustomed to making written goals for everything you intend to accomplish. The most difficult task is getting started,
